Creating a Landscape Feature Out of Your Pond

When I first bought my home, I was unsure about the man-made pond in the backyard. The water was green and there was no wildlife to be seen. I decided to work with the water feature instead of spending money on fill materials to get rid of the pond. I added a water fountain to the space first that featured a submersible pump and I later added fish. After installing a filtration system and an aeration device, my pond became the central landscaping feature on my property. I made a lot of mistakes as I completed the installations. I had to learn about the biological filtration and I had to figure out how to control algae with shade plants. I want you to have an easier time than I did creating a water feature, so read my blog to find out what you need to do.

The Quick Changes To Make For Fresh New Kitchen: What To Know

If your outdated kitchen makes your entire house look old and you want to upgrade a few main items to make the biggest impression, it's best to choose your investments wisely. You want to make the best updates and changes to improve the value and look of the space.

You'll first want to set a budget, and then choose the right items to fix the kitchen for the least possible without sacrificing appearance. Next take measurements for the countertops, cabinets and flooring. Here are a few things you'll want to consider if you want your kitchen to dramatically change.

Tile Floors

Porcelain and ceramic tile can be purchased for a low cost and can be installed easily by a homeowner that is handy or has done the project before. The tile flooring is neutral, easy to clean and comes in a variety of sizes. There are also options to put the tile horizontal or in even lines, or to add decorative patterns throughout the floor.

Stock Wood Cabinetry

Take out the old cabinets and replace the cabinets with stock wood options at the cabinet store or home improvement store. These are real hardwood cabinets, not compressed cardboard, and they are going to look great. There are often a few stains to choose from, or you can get the wood that is unfinished and decide what color you want to stain it on your own. Hardware isn't always needed, but if you get hardware make sure it's a brushed nickel or modern option.

Granite

If you are spending the money to improve your kitchen you want a natural stone countertop. Granite countertops come in many color variations and with a variety of grains to choose from, and they are robust and durable. The stone is resistant to water and heat, it's going to improve the look of the space, and it could potentially outlast the house.

These are all of the projects that may require some help from a professional installation company. Keeping the kitchen a modern and fresh paint color, updating the lighting fixtures and choosing something modern or contemporary, and changing out all of the kitchen hardware will also help improve the look of your kitchen a great deal. If you know that you want a modern kitchen that improves the appearance and value of your home at the same time on a budget, these changes are the right ones for you.
