Creating a Landscape Feature Out of Your Pond

When I first bought my home, I was unsure about the man-made pond in the backyard. The water was green and there was no wildlife to be seen. I decided to work with the water feature instead of spending money on fill materials to get rid of the pond. I added a water fountain to the space first that featured a submersible pump and I later added fish. After installing a filtration system and an aeration device, my pond became the central landscaping feature on my property. I made a lot of mistakes as I completed the installations. I had to learn about the biological filtration and I had to figure out how to control algae with shade plants. I want you to have an easier time than I did creating a water feature, so read my blog to find out what you need to do.

5 Ways To Add The Element Of Fire To Your Backyard

If you're looking to give your backyard an exotic and warm vibe, adding the element of fire can do the trick. From traditional fireplace installations to modern firepots filled with colored glass, fire is always a popular addition to backyard spaces. So whether you're looking for a romantic evening under the stars or just want to add some ambiance, here are five ways to incorporate fire into your backyard.

Firepit

A firepit is a classic way to add the element of fire to your outdoor space. Firepits come in different shapes, sizes, and styles. You can either purchase a portable one or opt for a built-in firepit that is a permanent fixture in your backyard. A firepit provides a great focal point in your outdoor space. You can gather chairs around it and cozy up to the fire's warmth with a glass of wine or a cold beer after a long week of work.

Free-Standing Fireplace

A free-standing fireplace is a great option for homeowners. Whether you opt for fireplace installation on a 3-season porch to stave off the chill and extend the season or a free-standing unit with an option for a built-in pizza oven, a fireplace is always welcome. It provides a more contained blaze than a firepit and serves as a statement piece and focal point in your backyard.

Chiminea

A chiminea is another popular fire element you can add to a backyard, particularly in the desert. It's a clay or metal vase-shaped structure that comes with a chimney on top. A chiminea provides a more contained fire for a smaller space without room for a full fireplace installation but where you still want to add ambiance and warmth.

Fire Table

A fire table is a great option for people who enjoy outdoor dining. It's a table with a built-in fire pit in the center, usually fueled by propane or natural gas. You can enjoy a meal while enjoying the warmth of the fire. A fire table lends itself particularly well to contemporary aesthetics.

Fire Pots

Fire pots, also called fire bowls and braziers, are a great way to add the element of fire to your backyard without taking up much space. These small metal containers can be filled with fuel and lit to create a beautiful flame. Fire pots are great for creating ambiance and warmth in small outdoor spaces and are often found around swimming pools.

Adding a fire element ensures that your outdoor space is a cozy and inviting retreat everyone can enjoy. From elaborate fireplace installations to simple chimineas, fire creates a comfortable gathering spot to entertain your friends and family.
